Winter is over, spring is here. A hopeful sign

It's over. Winter has ended. Five inches of snow (13 centimeters) fell on the first day of spring in my town in eastern Pennsylvania. But it won't last long. Temperatures are rising and the snow soon will be gone. In fact, I didn't shovel my sidewalk because the snow already had melted in the southern sun. The sun is strong, as strong as it is around the 22nd of September, when it's still possible to hike and sunbathe in the nude. The only difference between the two equinoxes is that the ground in the spring is frozen, which makes walking on bare feet a bit chilly. Much of the Northeast remains leafless. No blooms yet. But changes come at a quick pace. Ah, spring. A sign of hope. Warmer days are ahead! (Except, of course, for those in the Southern Hemisphere where winter is nigh. Sorry about that.)
